Not much time to post today, but the rehearsals were really promising.
A small teaser taken from the second part of the opera. The footage is taken from a webstream, and does only give a limited impression of the overall experience in the different sites.
For the first time the whole team got through the whole play together accross the four sites – not without problems at this stage. We are pushing several things to their limit, thus we have quite a lot to work on before the dress rehearsal tomorrow.
Continuing rehearsals in all the different sites. In Bergen signers and musicians were interacting with members of the choir in Piteå, Erik Westbergs Vokalensemble, and with Kevin Skelton (as Rimos) in Berlin. Piteå joined with several cameras and sound, Berlin only with sound today.
We also brought material from Cairo, with Christine Magdy (as Agathos), into the mix. And Zosimos and Helena had a "fight"...
The harding-fiddle (hardingfele) is an instrument that is uniqe to Norway, but the instrument does of course stand in a long tradition of stringed instruments. Its unique sound is not what one would often think about in an opera. But the, The Nine Lives of Zosimos is not an ordinary opera.
Today Gro Marie Svidal was rehearsing with dancer Silje Onstad Hålien, after a session with singers in Bergen and part of the choir in Piteå, togehter witj singer and muscisians from Berlin.
At the same time rehearsals and recordings are going on i Cairo. Wessam Mokhtar, playing req, Stefan Østersjö, on guitar, and Mo'men Mustafa, playing ney, with Christine Magdy, singing the role Agathos.
Continuing rehearsals with Zsuzsa Zseni (as Theodora) and Ludvig Lindström (as Zosimos) and clarinetist Adrià Torres Amorós in Bergen, and Kammerensemble Neue Musik in Berlin, with Kevin Skelton (as Rimos). Today Kevin joins ut from Rome, but from Monday and on he will join the company in Berlin.
At this point the choir in Piteå, Erik Westbergs Vokalensemble, has not yet joined the joint rehearsals. They will join us, telematically, early next week.
From today recordings are going on in Cario, with Stefan Östersjö joining the local ensemble with Christine Magdy (as Agathos) .
Today all the singers in Bergen were live with sound and video form Berlin. One singer will also be in Berlin, but for toydays rehearsal he joined from another place.
<<< Jostein Stalheim keeping track of all the musical parts. In the back: members of Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin.
The scenography is going to be plain, with the singers placed in their spearate spaces on the stage. This kind of resemble and equals the distance to the other singers and musicians, in Berling, Piteå and Cairo.
Costumes and dress rehearsals are also progressing.
Zsuzsa Zseni (as Theodora), Jostein Stalheim (composer), Silje Aker Johnsen (as Maria) and Ludvig Lindström (as Zosimos) on the stage in Mimes brønn, in Bergen.
Silje Aker Johnsen (as Maria) and Ludvig Lindström (as Zosimos), joined by clarinetist Adrià Torres Amorós in Bergen, with Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin (KNM) and Federico Visi connected telematicly from Berlin.
In this rehearsal (May 14) there is no video from the other sites projected on the background screen. A video mix will, however, be a central visual element in the final performance across the four sites
